“Remember their Stories”
In the wake of recent historic attacks on DEI programs and the deep uncertainty this poses for all of us, the idea for “Ghosts of Yarnville” was borne out of a belief that fostering connection to our ancestors and unearthing the buried histories of our country is paramount to healing for our country. I wanted to tell the stories around the people of the many small black towns in America that have literally been buried under water for the purposes of economic gain. So I spun a southern gothic horror tale about a pregnant root worker and her family. It’s shamanistic. It’s domestic terror. There are witches and ghosts and even a few zombies. And most of all it allows me to make sense of the chaos and hate in our world right now. I needed this book and I believe America needs it too.
